Visual Latin: Makes Latin Easy!

The thought of teaching Latin made me want to hide under a table. I did not think there would be any way for me to teach Latin. I never took Latin in school. I have no experience in this subject and quite frankly it is an intimidating subject if you are unfamiliar. Knowing that I decided to homeschool to provide a better education I knew I would have to find away to teach my children Latin. Latin will help build a strong foundation for English. A person who knows Latin will have a firmer grasp on vocabulary and spelling. I … Continue reading

Last Minute Visiting Teaching Ideas

When I go visiting teaching, I like to stick to the lesson for the most part. After all, they are the lessons that are inspired that we are supposed to share with the sisters we visit teach. However, sometimes, the lesson doesn’t seem to apply very well to the sister we are visiting, or sometimes, I have a hard time relating. Whatever the case, sometimes, it is nice to do something a little extra or different for your sisters to build relationships with them, or make them feel the love of the Savior. We are supposed to be working in … Continue reading

Meet The Teacher Night

School starts back next week and tonight we are going to meet the teachers. This is always an interesting day for our family. When you have a family that does not match there is usually some explaining to do. With our family we also have to tell the teachers the basics of seizure first aid just in case the boys have a seizure at school. Luckily that has not happened but it is better to be safe and informed than sorry and scared. We always explain to the teachers that the children have been adopted and that they all have … Continue reading

Are You Committed?

A member of my ward said something to me not too long ago that made me kind of chuckle to myself. She said that my husband and I were “platinum members” of the ward. I had never heard that phrase. I laughed and asked her what it meant. I’m not sure if it was a term that she coined, or had heard somewhere else, but regardless, she explained that it meant that we were active, always participated, and were the type of members to never say no. It made me think of President Uchtdorf’s recent First Presidency Address, Brother, I’m … Continue reading

What grade are you in?

From the clerk at the store to the nurse in the pediatrician’s office, my kids always hear the same question, “What grade are you in?” It never fails to get a quizzical look for my kids. They look at me then at each other then at the person asking with no answer to give. Recently my oldest has decided to respond with “I’m homeschooled.” Then the only one with a quizzical look is the one who asked the question. In my homeschool we do not use a grade level system as much more than a guideline or a way to … Continue reading
