Understanding Charlotte Mason Vocabulary F-H

In previous posts, I and other homeschool bloggers here at families.com have discussed our experiences with charlotte mason curriculum. In my last post, I supplied Charlotte Mason Vocabulary for the letters A - B, and C-E. This article will cover the letters G-H.

French: French was the first foreign language of choice in the Charlotte Mason Parents National Educational Union Schools. This is more because of the schools proximity to France than anything else is. Students were also taught German and Italian. It may make sense for American Homeschoolers to study Latin languages first because these are more useful. Regardless, several languages should still be learned.

Geography: Geography is studied through map work, which is done in conjunction with other subjects. As students read and explore history and science though living books and literature, .they will also draw maps to and study geographical features.

Grammar: (See English) Grammar as in English Grammar is integrated into other subjects. The exception of this is that Grammar is a part of studying foreign languages.

Goal: The main goal of Charlotte Mason approach to homeschooling is to train students in self-discipline of mind, body, and spirit. A love of education is a byproduct of this goal.

Habits: Charlotte Mason Believed that students should be trained in 20 desirable habits and often used the phrase "Habit is ten Natures". These habits were to begin at birth and to be taught one at a time. Another famous quote by Charlotte Mason is "the habits of the child produce the character of the man", and History was the first history to be taught in the form of learning about important people through stories and novels.
