Tools to Teach Kindergarten

Homeschooling your Kindergartener will come with challenges, frustration, joy, and so much fun. Kindergarteners are naturally curious so this can make learning both difficult and easy. Difficult because the child often gets distracted and wants to veer off to the left of your straight path. Easy in the sense that you get a student ready, willing, and able to learn anything and everything she sees. It’s up to you to find the proper tools to guide your little student down the right path. I hear “What curriculum should I use for my Kindergartener?” all the time. It is reasonable that … Continue reading

Homeschooling Kindergarten

This homeschooling year will be significant as I have one child entering her first year of junior high and another starting Kindergarten. This will be my third time teaching Kindergarten. I am so grateful that I have one more time to teach it after this. Teaching Kindergarten is one of my favorite things. I just love the finger paint, art projects, reading lessons, math lessons, hands on activities, and curiosity about the world these little students possess. Kindergarten is the time to build future students who are curious, creative and critical thinkers. But don’t let that pressure you one bit … Continue reading

Tools for Teaching Charlotte Mason

In my recent series on Charlotte Mason, I discussed terminology that is used within Charlotte Mason circles. Now that you know all of the terminology you might want to know how to go about teaching a child using the Charlotte Mason Method. While there is no such thing as a prepared Charlotte Mason based curriculum, there are several websites and books that can serve as a guide. Simplycharlottemason.com: The Simply Charlotte Mason website serves as a guide to teaching using this approach. It helps you locate books, organize your homeschool, and stay in touch with other Charlotte Mason Homeschoolers. Amblesideonline.org: … Continue reading

Rad Grad Layouts

From preschool to college, graduation ceremonies are in full swing across the country this month. Commencement is a huge milestone in the lives of loved ones, be it from kindergarten, eighth grade, high school or law school. These special moments deserve scrapbook space, even if it means creating a single layout. However, in most cases, the monumental event typically warrants at least a few pages, if not an entire memory album unto itself. These days it is easy to find ways to craft multiple rad grad layouts. Scrapbook supply shops are filled with graduation-themed embellishments, from diploma-shaped die cuts to … Continue reading

Preschool

As a single parent, there are just some things you can’t afford. This year that was preschool. With Logan in daycare 20 hours a week, I just couldn’t justify spending the money to have him in preschool too. As much as I wanted him to be there, I simply couldn’t afford it. Things like this happen often as a single parent. Money is tight and you can only stretch your dollar so far. When I realized that preschool wasn’t going to be an option for us I started to panic. Was he really going to be ready for kindergarten if … Continue reading

I Can Do It Myself

This year my son turned three. It seems like every other three year old we know is already in preschool. As a single mom with very little money coming in, I just couldn’t afford it this year. I felt guilty that he wasn’t getting the same opportunities the other kids were simply because I was a single mom who was barely making ends meet as it was. Would my child be forever behind the other kids when he reached kindergarten? Would he ever catch up? I set out to find a solution. As much as I wished I could afford … Continue reading

Favorite Preschool Curriculum

Preschool is a delightful time in a child’s life. Little hands writing their name for the first time or creating a unique art project. Preschoolers are very curious and want to learn about everything around them. Their excitement is contagious and as moms or homeschoolers we want to be sure we are giving them the best educational start possible. I try to tell moms homeschooling preschool for the first time to let the child lead. Allow for fun, creativity, nature walks, painting, exploring and making big messes. Lessons are best learned messy and hands on. However many have expressed they … Continue reading
