Articles of Faith Series: The Eighth Article

The eighth Article of Faith reads: We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. One of the biggest concerns some people have about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the fact that we have “another” Bible. They feel that we don’t believe in the Bible and that we are trying to usurp the Bible with our own book of scripture. As the eighth Article of Faith states, we do believe in the Bible. It’s a … Continue reading

Articles of Faith Series: The First Article

The Prophet Joseph Smith wrote the Articles of Faith to be a summary of the beliefs of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and to this day, we turn to those Articles to teach the rudiments of the gospel to those curious. Our Primary children are asked to memorize them as part of receiving their Faith in God award, and we often quote them in our Church lessons. The first Article reads: “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.” This statement is perhaps one of … Continue reading

RS/EQ: Obedience Born of Faith in God

As we continue to catch up on the Spencer W. Kimball lessons from the 2007 course of study, let’s take a look at #13, entitled, “Obedience Born of Faith in God.” When we have true faith, it acts as a motivating force for us as we seek to do the will of God. As we exercise that faith, it keeps us moving forward, even though we may not have concrete proof. We can tap into the world of miracles without knowing just how they came about much as we can enjoy light without understanding the principles of electricity. Just as … Continue reading

Study the Articles of Faith

Do you know the Articles of Faith? In Primary we are encouraged to memorize the Articles of Faith in order to learn the Faith in God awards. Although I did memorize each Article of Faith when I was a child, I feel that I failed to grasp the entire meaning of these powerful statements. I didn’t appreciate that they answered questions that so many people struggle with nor did I fully understand what each one meant. As an adult I have met so many people that have struggled with various aspects of Christianity. One common area is the nature of … Continue reading

The Statement of Faith

If you have shopped around for a homeschooling Co-op or organization to join, then you are familiar with the statement of faith. Many Christian Homeschool groups and organizations have a statement of faith for new members to sign. The purpose of this statement of faith is to ensure that all of the members of the group have similar homeschooling philosophies and goals in homeschooling their children. These are families that the members plan to spend a great deal of time with for the foreseeable future, and it is very likely that the children in these families will be the best … Continue reading

Religion and politics are considered the two most divisive topics in the world when it comes to relationships. There are some faiths that counsel against marrying outside the faith in order to promote and preserve harmony in the relationship. However, it’s up to you who you marry and … Continue reading

No Need to Fear

When I go through my day each day, I don’t feel a lot of fear. I am afraid to say that I don’t often think about the tragedy and sorrow that is going on in the world around me. Some days, I don’t even think a lot about what other people are doing that might be morally incorrupt. After all, I am a Mom to 3 small children. My days are full of the bare necessities. Cleaning, cooking, bathing, feeding, breaking up fights, and teaching my children…well, everything children need to be taught. But, some days, I stop and take … Continue reading
