According to the HSLDA. the Rapid city School Board in South Dakota wants to recruit homeschoolers in an effort to bring more money into the district. Read more about Rapid City school budget woes.

Here is an excerpt from HSLDA

The Rapid City School Board created a committee last summer to examine budget issues for the school system. On January 22, their recommendations were made public. The report suggested that the school system could find additional revenue sources by "recruiting more homeschooled students into the district." Other recommendations were made, as well.

While I am sure that recruiting more students from the ranks of homeschoolers will give the Rapid City School district more money to work with, what benefit will it such a move have for homeschoolers? Furthermore, how will schools recruit homeschoolers? Will they improve programs? Will they use scare tactics? Will the effort to recruit the students eat up the increased revenue.

Regardless of what they want, and regardless of what they try it is highly unlikely that the bulk of homeshoolers will be willing to return to public schools. Here is some other school headlines from the Rapid City school district:

Teacher-Approved High School Sex Obsession "Last year, Central High School put on the pro-homosexual play "The Laramie Project." Now the Rapid City Journal reports Central plans to do a graphic play called "Spring's Awakening" written by Frank Wedekind."

Senate committee keeps mandatory school age at 18 "A South Dakota Senate committee has refused to get rid of a law that will require students to stay in high school until they graduate or reach the age of 18." This keeps hostile kids who don't want to be there in the schools distracting kids who want to learn.
