Revenge of the Homeschooling Uniformsby Andrea Hermitt | More from this Blogger 04 Apr 2007 05:30 PM I am sure that if you have heard about homeschooling, you have heard about the homeschooling uniform. You know the old stereotypes. The moms wear denim smock dresses, the boys wear thrift store jeans, and the girls wear miniature versions of moms drab wear. Well, none of the homeschooling moms I know actually dress like that. There are more jeans, t-shirts, and sweat suits in my neck of the woods. (With the exceptions of the handful of puritans, I run into at homeschool fairs). Anyway, I wanted to discuss dressing our homeschooled kids. I think it is absolutely cool that I get to avoid the back to school rush to buy my kids clothes because they are not going back to school. Instead, I wait until a month after the rush is over, and go in and sweep up all the same clothes on clearance sales. The same goes for winter and holiday clothes. I always shop post "sale" time to get the real sales. This method works great for regular clothing stock up time. However, sometimes, you need a special outfit for an event or occasion. If you fail to plan ahead for it, what do you do? Well, I have found the perfect solution... school uniforms. No, I am not crazy; I really dress my kids in school uniforms. I purchase them at Target, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Old Navy, or French Toast. They come in great colors that always look great on your kids, navy, khaki, gray, and even catholic school plaid. If you want your kid to look clean and crisp, nothing looks better than navy slacks or skirt with a crisp white shirt and navy sweater. The cool part is my kids do not even realize they are wearing uniforms. Add a tie, cools socks, and a funky hat to my son's ensemble and it is an original. For my daughter, I like to change buttons to something flashier, and even add a fun trim or embroidery. For about $10.00 apiece, you cannot beat the cost. Looks like I have found one more place where homeschoolers are no different from kids who go to school! Related Articles: Misinformation About Homeschooling: Don't Believe the Lies!
