New Math Curriculum iLearn Offers Free Home Trialsby Andrea Hermitt | More from this Blogger 12 Jul 2007 04:02 PM A new math curriculum called iLearn had launched a pilot program to homeshcoolers where homescholers can use the program free of charge for the upcoming year in exchange for monthly feedback. The iLearn math program is geared to 4th through 8th graders, which are the grades when math problems begin. The automated program will determine your childs level and needs, and instruct that child according to the findings. iPASS, which is part of the iLearn program, "uses a unique instructional style, including an engaging multimedia format with graphics, animation and narration" to teach students. Is it a good or even superior math program? I have no idea. It does look promising though. Should I use it to cut homeschool costs? Cutting homeschool costs is a good reason to try the program, although it should not be the determining factor. Should you love the program and plan to continue, you will likely need to pay full price for the second year. Currently, if you decided to pay for the program without the feedback trade, you would be paying $149.99 for the year plus $100.00 for each additional student. This is the introductory prices and ½ for the listed price. I am pointing this out so that you know what the program will cost you after the first year. This should be taken into consideration. What if we decide the program is not for us? You can stop at any time, and would have to get a new math program for your child and possibly even make up for lost time if your child does not learn well with this program. Am I going to try it? I am afraid not, my year is already planned out and the children are taking classes while using another program that is already paid for. I would love to hear from anyone who does use it though. Do I recommend it? If you have not chosen a math program yet, and are compiling your childs curriculum one course at a time, you may want to try it. How do I get started? There is procedure to get started: 1) Assess your technology...does your computer meet the technical requirements? What Happens Next? Your account will be created and both your and your child(ren) will have access the iPASS / iLearn program. Find out more about the program at ilearn.com *Have a question about homeschooling? Our school can't afford it this year, and I can't afford 300/year for just my daughter. I am trying to get this company to lower the price for homeschoolers if we get enough people.
