Where Oh Where Has My Motivation Gone?

Isn’t it funny how when you get out of a habit it is so hard to get back into it? I’m pretty stalled this week. There have been a couple of issues, I mean excuses. First of all, my wonderful free elliptical may have just breathed its last. A part cracked on it, spilling white powder that is apparently pretty essential to the machine operating correctly. The part is no longer sold by the manufacturer, and my very talented husband has little hope of improvising a part to correct it. I may get a few more workouts out of it, … Continue reading

Swine Flu Scare and Weight Loss?

What a week the past one has been. Early in the week, I started fighting some intestinal bug. I had to skip the workouts for a couple of days due to stomach cramps and an overall weakness. I suppose the fact that I was living basically on ginger-ale and graham crackers and not keeping much of that in my body probably compensated for the downtime in exercise. I don’t think I gained or lost. After a few days, I felt better and went back to my normal routine. I haven’t been able to walk or run due to the fact … Continue reading

Caution Bodily Fluids Ahead

Warning: Gross but true Being a mom, there are a multitude of bodily fluids that I have been “given.” From diapers that leak to full frontal liquid assaults, to date I have been peed on, pooped on, thrown up upon, sweated on, drooled upon, sneezed on, cried on and bled on. I have been a substitute tissue on occasion, and have had the honor of retrieving stubborn snotty mucus from sick children. Thanks to all of this exposure, I see the world in a different way. No longer do most bodily fluids make me squeamish. I think nothing of wiping … Continue reading

Fluoride and Infants

When it comes to your infant, do you really need to worry about fluoride? The answer is a definite yes. Fluoride can protect budding teeth, but more importantly, too much fluoride can lead to a condition called fluorosis. Fluoride in the right amount is helpful for preventing tooth decay and strengthening your baby’s teeth. If you baby is given too much fluoride, then the teeth can become black and mottled. This mainly just affects the appearance of the teeth and not the health of the teeth, but it is far from attractive. Fluoride can makes its way into your baby’s … Continue reading

A Father’s Influence

A curious thing has happened to my son. He has always been polite and basically well mannered. He remembers to say, “Please” and “Thank you.” But since our return to New Orleans, he has become quite the little gentleman. For starters, each day when I pick him up from school, the first thing he asks me is, “How was your day, mama?” then he actually listens to what I have to say! After I finish, he proceeds to tell me about his day as a first-grader. We’ve always talked but now we’re communicating. I have always felt that Tyler didn’t … Continue reading
