Little Scientist and the Butterflies

My daughter’s first introduction to science observation is the Butterfly Garden by Insect Lore. Is Your Child on an Artistic Pursuit?

I needed a curriculum that was solid, informative, taught concepts about art and was fun. I began to think what I was seeking did not exist until Artistic Pursuits. I had the pleasure of reviewing Book 1 for Grades … Continue reading

The Power of M-O-M

When you are down and out, nervous or tense, anxious or stressed, whom do you turn to first? If you answered good ol’ mom, then you’re in good company. Mom may be the obvious answer to the aforementioned question, but researchers wanted to prove how powerful a little TLC from M-O-M really is, so they set out to test the time-honored theory. According to researchers from the University of Wisconsin — Madison (my alma mater), a mother’s voice has the power to calm frazzled nerves. They proved it during a study that involved 61 girls, ages 7 to 12, and … Continue reading

Sometimes it can be a challenge to find a movie you’ll really enjoy. Let’s take a look back at last week and see if our movie reviews will help narrow the field a little bit. We started the week out with a look at “The Magic School Bus: Bugs, Bugs, Bugs.” A blend of education and entertainment, this DVD will teach your children about bees, ants, and butterflies in a fun way. “Definitely, Maybe” is the story of a recently-divorced man who is faced with some challenging questions when his daughter learns about sex in school. She wants to know … Continue reading
