Glen Keane Leaving Disney Animation

Glen Keane announced over the weekend that he’s leaving Disney Animation. Most of us probably don’t know who Glen Keane is, even if we’ve seen his name dozens of times while idly watching the ending credits of many Disney movies. I only know him because my work on this blog has motivated me to watch and pay more attention to behind the scenes Disney films and featurettes. Keane has been an animator at Disney for around forty years. He arrived in the 1970s, in time to be mentored by Eric Larson, Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston—members of the old guard … Continue reading

Leaving a Legacy

Let’s talk about leaving a legacy. This is something I have been thinking about quite a bit lately. Mostly because I have been quite busy creating a new business, writing, blogging, and teaching three kids in the midst of raising a toddler. I am busy. I am stressed. I am exhausted. I remember a mom who relished teaching her children. I remember a mom who would take an hour to put her kids to bed because she enjoyed reading book after book while we laughed and played. I remember a mom who would spend the afternoon playing board games. I … Continue reading

The Quilter’s Legacy — Jennifer Chiaverini

Sylvia Compson, owner of Elm Creek Manor and operator of the Elm Creek Quilt Camp, has finally accepted Andrew’s offer of marriage. He’s been courting her off and on for years, proposed three times to be refused three times, but he’s never given up. Now his persistence is finally being rewarded and he couldn’t be more delighted. Sylvia, however, is starting to wonder what she’s gotten herself into. The other ladies from Elm Creek are leaving bridal magazines on her desk, looking at wedding cakes, sharing their opinions about dresses and flowers, and basically having the time of their lives, … Continue reading

What is Robbing You of Happiness?

There are many things out in life that can rob us of happiness and being satisfied with what we have. You usually only consider yourself lacking, if someone else tells you that you are. For example, in generations past, there was no such thing as a smart phone, yet ask any tween around who will tell you that he or she can’t survive without one. I’ve been guilting of unhappiness due to my perceived lack of stuff. It is insane really. My family has adequate food, clothing and shelter, and yet I would focus on the fact that another family … Continue reading

When It’s Hard to See the Good

Have you ever been surprised by a child’s accomplishment? As parents this might sound inconceivable but I have a confession to make…I am guilty of this. Last week was the annual “Legacy Awards.” This is a special night in our church’s youth group, where teens are nominated for a variety of things. All the teens get dressed up. And those who are nominated get to take a ride in a limo and then come down the red carpet while the paparazzi (the parents) snap pictures. It is just like the Grammy’s, where someone comes up (youth sponsors) and opens an … Continue reading

The Heart of Home Business

“”When you buy from a small mom business, you are not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home. You are helping a little girl get dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom put food on the table, a dad pay a mortgage, or a student pay for college. Our customers are our shareholders and they are the ones we strive to make happy. Thank you for supporting small businesses!”” ~ Unknown A small business or home business owner is following a dream and if that dream leads to a multi-million dollar company then all the … Continue reading

October 2010 General Conference-What Have You Done With My Name?

I often don’t think about what will happen when I’m gone. I don’t think about the “legacy” I might be leaving. But, every once in a while, it flutters through my mind, and I think, “What will people say about me when I’m gone?” or “Did I do enough in this life to make an impact on someone, somewhere?” I look at those of my relatives that have already passed on, and I only have good thoughts. I do not think of the mistakes they made, or my bad experiences I may have had with them, but I think of … Continue reading

Difficulty Sleeping

My daughter Jessie has been having issues with sleeping lately. I feel so bad for her, especially since she was always a good sleeper. Jessie joined our family when she was nine months old. She transitioned beautifully. We could put her in her crib and she’d flop over onto her tummy and sleep peacefully for 12 hours or more. Pumpkin was a foster baby in our home when Jessie came. Since Jessie has been here, four children have come and gone. We’ve done our best to cushion the blow of changes in the family. We reiterate how she is our … Continue reading
