Is Your Child on an Artistic Pursuit?

I am proud to introduce you to Artistic Pursuits. Teaching art is not my strong suit. Art classes in my home mostly consisted of activities I looked up online or using my own imagination. While I came up with some creative and fun ideas, I was not teaching art but allowing my children to use different mediums to express themselves visually. I needed a curriculum that was solid, informative, taught concepts about art and was fun. I began to think what I was seeking did not exist until Artistic Pursuits. I had the pleasure of reviewing Book 1 for Grades … Continue reading

Is Artistic Genius an Excuse?

Are those with exceptional artistic or creative talent outside the rules for normal relationships and marriage boundaries? So often in today’s society, and even past society that seems to be the case. We make excuses because they are a genius. That was some of the thoughts that came out of the play Mick and I saw last night. We went with friends to see our local drama group’s production of the play Mr. Bailey’s Minder by Australian author Debra Oswald. The play is the ‘tough, funny and bighearted story of an abusive and cantankerous’ artist called Leo Bailey. Leo has … Continue reading

Pixar Loses “Alma”

Disney’s dropped the ball. This year Pixar animator Rodrigo Blaas put out a short called “Alma” that he created on his own time. Pixar or Disney did not make or distribute it. I admit that when I first skimmed the story and watched the short, I assumed that “Alma” was a Pixar production. The first thing out of my lips when finishing “Alma” was “wow.” It was fantastic, but not like what I’d expect from Pixar, especially for the frothy, if brilliant, clips they put in front of their feature lengths. It boasts a sinister ending, though not one so … Continue reading

Does Birth Order Affect Personality?

I have found the concept of birth order affecting personality fascinating ever since I attended an education seminar on the topic with a fellow teacher. I am an oldest child and she was a youngest. It was interesting as we listened to the speaker outline the traits associated with each birth position how many of the traits we exhibited within our own lives. We also recognized the traits in many of our students. Why does birth order affect personality? The reason is because parents aren’t perfect so each child’s environment, largely depending upon their birth order is different. More responsibilities … Continue reading
