Is Ali Lohan Really Homeschooling?by Andrea Hermitt | More from this Blogger 11 May 2009 07:17 PM Just Jared.com points out that Ali Lohan, younger sister of Lindsay Lohan (who was also homeschooled) was out on a school night. There are pictures of her in the evening in sun glasses, shorts and a t-shirt. The article discusses a People Magazine website that questions if Ali is socializing instead of homeschooling. Am I the only one getting confused here? The general public's biggest worry about homeschooling is lack of socialization. A girl goes out for a little fun, and now she isn't schooling. Really people!!!! Make up your mind... But I digress. My purpose was not to point out the ridiculous, but to reiterate that homeschooling does not mean that a person must follow certain set hours from doing school work from 8 am until 3 pm, and then homework until midnight. Firstly, homeschooling takes much less time than typical schooling. Secondly, homeschooling allows flexible hours. While I don't know enough about Ali Lohan to defend or to vilify her and her mother, I can vouch that homeschooling, even for a high school student can be finished before 1pm leaving a whole lot of day to go out and have a bit of fun. I know that in our own experience, last year my 14 year old son, took a combination of 9th and 10th grade classes last year 2 days a week outside the home (Monday and Thursday). He finished all of his homework of Friday and Saturday leaving Tuesday and Wednesday to do as he pleased and Sunday to rest. He just finished the year with A's and B's. He took 5 academic classes, Drama, Chorus, Piano, Avid Editing, and a Worldview (religion) class. Most of his teachers were pretty rigid too! Therefore, just because a homeschoolers is not home does not mean they are not learning. *Have a question about homeschooling? Just ask. * Have you seen the homeschooling curriculum glossary?
