I Could Not Stay Away

When I gave up my post as homeschooling blogger for families.com about 8 months ago, I did so with the hope that if and when I was ready to come back that I would be welcomed. Well that wish has been granted. I am back and I have so much to blog about.

I will start by giving you a bit of background about me. Here is my introduction from December 2006 when I previously started homeschooling for families.com. A few things have changed, but not much. My kids are a bit older. My son is 13 and straddling 8th and 9th grade. We are seriously talking about college. My daughter is 11 and enjoying 6th grade and acting in plays. I do more writing than anything else, and am attempting to get back into my artwork. I have let go of some of my extra curricular activities at this time to focus on my writing and my kids, especially since my husband travels quite a bit with his current job.

We are still what you would call relaxed homeschoolers,(part 2) (part 3) but as they get older, we seem to get less and less relaxed. My kids mostly take classes and have schedules very much like college students through Masters Academy of Fine Arts, which I previously mentioned here.

On Mondays my son takes their Artios Program which is for older children who want to delve deeper into the arts of their choice. He is concentrating on film and thinking about adding visual arts since he is a year ahead in the program. My daughter is still in the Masters program for younger kids which teaches history through Art, music, and theater. On Thursdays both kids take the 'schools' Cordis program which consists of Math, Science, History with Literature combines, Grammar, and Language (for the older kids). They are home on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday when they get all of their assignments done and study. For us we've found a nice balance for older kids who like being with other kids, but hate being taught.

So that's it for now. You will learn more about my family and me as time goes on.
