Shaping a Hybrid Homelearning Experience

I’d like to introduce myself – here is a virtual handshake for you! I’m the mom of our lovely just-turned-five-year-old, and we’re embarking on our educational journey. Yes, I realize that learning starts from birth, and that’s one of the reasons that I want to continue the life that we’ve led so far. I love spending time with my daughter and she is somewhat of an introvert. Home and family are our safe and happy places. While we live next door to a school and may yet attend it in the future, we’re one of those new families who is … Continue reading

Homeschooling to save money

It seems that interest in homeschooling is growing as families with children in private schools began to make budget wise decisions. For parents who chose private over public schools for academic, religious, and safety reasons, lack of money is not enough reasons to re-enroll children into public school. It seems that homeschooling may be the only option. Of course there is the problem that many of these parents see themselves as teachers, or ever planned on teaching their kids themselves. Fortunately there are many hybrid homescchool programs that will partner with parents that can help them homeschool their kids with … Continue reading

A Warning for Hybrid Homeschoolers

Some time ago, I explained that the best label for our family in the homeschooling realm is hybrid homeschooling. Hybrid homeschoolers work in the middle ground between school and home. While the majority of us do not utilize public school resources, we do find other resources to help homeschool our kids. There will be co-op classes, tutors, and even programs that mimic school very closely, though it will very likely be for less than 5 days a week. I have noticed a large influx of hybrid homeschool programs in my area. The latest has fully loaded days, just like in … Continue reading

Reports of Homeschooling are Greatly Exaggerated

Las Vegas Eyewitness News reported that more students are hitting the books online. They called it homeschooling. To be more specific, the report said, “Until recently, parents choosing to home school their children felt isolated — alone not only in their belief that it would be a better choice for their family, but also because there were precious few resources to help them. But that’s not the case anymore” And “Fifth grader Pierce and third grader Sierra are enrolled at the Nevada Connections Academy. NCA is an online public charter school accredited by the Nevada Department of Education. …”We have … Continue reading
