Homeschooling Special Needs Kids: Resources

I set out to write one, maybe two blogs about homeschooling your child with special needs. However, I foolishly didn't realize that there was so much to it. For those of you who homeschool special needs children, I welcome your suggestions for blogs. For now, we will start at the beginning, with a list of resources for you to check out.

National Home Education Network NHEN has a great FAQs page about home schooling special needs children.

National Challenged Homeschoolers Associated Network A resource for Christian families who are home schooling special needs kids.

Aut2Be Home An e-mail list and resource website for families home schooling their child with autism.

CMKids An e-mail group for those who are using the Charlotte Mason method with their special needs children

The Family Education Network A very helpful page with information and more links to home schooling your special needs child.

ABA Materials Is a company that makes CD-roms that have colorful pictures that you can print out and use as flash cards.

Audioblox A multi-sensory program that has proven successful for people with dyslexia.

Brightword Has several articles about working with special needs kids. This particular link is to an article entitled, "Ten Steps to Successfully Homeschooling Your Special Needs Child"

Different Roads to Learning A website that has numerous links and information for parents of autistic kids.

H.O.T. Ideas H.O.T. stands for hands-on tasks and ideas. This is an online catalog of products geared towards special needs kids.

The Ontario Federation of Teaching Parents Resources for home schooling 'different learning styles'.

Handwriting Without Tears Although this is not specifically for special needs kids, it is used widely by therapists in special education because of its "learning through play" focus.

Parents Instructing Challenged Children Information for home schooling special needs children in New York.

The ADD Warehouse Lots of good information and resources on ADD, ADHD and related disorders.

Arise Lots of good information regarding advocacy and independent living.

Enabling Devices Toys for special children.

Math U See This is not specifically for special needs kids but it has been touted as one of the best programs on the home school market for kids who are really struggling in Math.

New York State Talking Book and Braille Library

Infogrip A resource for providing assistive technology

PASS testing If you live in a state that requires annual assessments via testing, PASS offers untimed tests that measure student achievement.

Sign Enhancers Products for the hearing impaired.

Special Needs Toys

Homeschooling is a challenge. I hope that some of these resources are useful for those of you who are getting started on this endeavor. I would love to hear feedback from those of you who are considering or are already home schooling your special needs child.

Hi I am new to this site and really dont know how to set up everything. I joined hoping to connect with others and also to promote my website for homeschoolers from beginners to been doing it for years groups. WE have a forum set up and we would like bloggers. The site is posted for many to view it has alot of information about Homeschooling, recent information from laws & legislation to each state & more, many links, curriculum information, and really so much more. WE would like a forum on special needs to be involved in this also. Can you help me out. I dont know what I need to do in order to subscribe to these trends or blogs? I am lost. Sorry!
