That Crazy Jackson Family

If you thought Michael Jackson was the oddball of the Jackson family, you may be reconsidering that after this week’s Jackson family drama. First, it was reported that Katherine Jackson, guardian of Michael’s children, Prince, Paris, and Blanket, was missing last Saturday night by her nephew. The reason he filed the report was that the children said they had not heard from their grandmother. Jermaine said Katherine was in Arizona resting, but Paris insisted on Twitter that Katherine was missing and she hadn’t spoken to her in a week. Jermaine said his mother was resting per doctor’s orders, that she … Continue reading

Sweat Lodges: Spiritual Healing or Deadly Adventure?

I believe that being green involves many different aspects. You have to love and respect the environment, animals, and other people, but to me, part of being green also involves taking care of yourself – both physically by eating better foods and trying to cut out bad habits like smoking and stressing. Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Chimichangas

Technically a chimichanga is Tex Mex and not true Mexican food. It is known to have originated in Arizona however exactly where it originated is the subject of some debate. I prefer the story of a chef who accidentally dropped some dough into a pot of hot oil, and in frustration yelled out, “Chimichanga” the equivalent in Spanish of “thingamajig.” I’m not sure how plausible that is, but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! You will need: 1 lb. of ground beef 1/2 cup of finely chopped onions 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 tsp. dried oregano leaves 1 … Continue reading

New York Buys into Payment Plan

Thanks to a comment by Valorie in my most recent article about Arizona’s new plan to pay high school students to stay in school, I also discovered that New York is offering students money. Low-income families in New York may earn big bucks for keeping their children in school and out of trouble. Mayor Bloomberg assures that he is not using public funds and that the program is completely operated on private money. Students can earn money for keeping up their grades and completing math and reading homework. However, the money does not stop there. Even parents can cash in … Continue reading
