Homeschool Curriculum Glossary (The Young- Truthquest)by Andrea Hermitt | More from this Blogger 07 May 2007 12:00 PM The Young Scientists Club is a website with materials for science experiments and materials. "Here the children can not only explore science topics and science experiments in depth, but can also e-mail Celsius the Science Bug™ with questions, results, and comments." Timberdoodle Co. has provided resources to the homeschool community for over 20 years. They specialize in learning tools and games. Time4Learning is an online curriculum (that rivals K12) that teaches children through fun animations, and records test scores as well. It can be used as a full curriculum or supplement to another homeschool program. Times Tables the Fun Way is a book that teaches the times tables through fun stories and pictures. You can also purchase Addition the Fun way. Times Tales and times tales Deluxe helps teach the upper times tables in just one hour. This book has been called a "Godsend" for students struggling with times tables. This program is recommended for homeschool teachers and parents of any child who needs to learn the times table facts. It will also help a child struggling with division as division problems usually stem from problems with multiplication tables. Total Language Plus is a Christian perspective language arts program for third through 12th graders. Using literature as the basis of the program, Total Language Plus teaches thinking, and communication skills in an integrated style that makes learning pleasant and prevents fragmentation. The comprehensive novel studies covers spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, listening, grammar and punctuation, analytical and critical thinking, writing, and more. TouchMath is a multisensory approach to teaching math through what they call "mental manipulations". Touchmath is primarily sold to schools, and teacher workshops are recommended to learn how to use the products. It is however, also made available to homeschoolers. TRISMS (Time Related Integrated studies for Mastering Skills) provides History resources and reading materials for public, private, and homeschooled children. Trisms work well with Unit Studies and Classical approaches to homeschooling. TRISMS is a research based, student driven program that facilitates independent learning. TruthQuest History "is a deep and rich literature-based history study...but with a difference." It teaches the "lovestory" of mankind instead of the "story of mankind". This is a Christian based history curriculum in which "You will not focus on the rise and fall of human civilizations; you will focus on the arrow-straight line of God's unchanging existence, power, love, truth, and plan for civilization. You will not simply 'meet the culture' or 'get the facts;' you will probe the truths of history so deeply that your students will be equipped to change their world!" *Have a question about homeschooling?
