Hard to Find Homeschool Resource: Creative Writing

I recently asked homeschoolers what resources they were looking for but unable to find online. One response was that creative writing resources have been difficult to find. Apparently, homeschool students are looking for websites that cover Creative Writing.

It is true that there isn't much in the area of creative writing available for homeschoolers, but if you think out of the box you will still find some creative writing resources that you can use. Here is what I uncovered:

The Crafty Writer's Creative Writing Course can be a self led creative writing course or you can pay a small fee in Liras for feeback on your writing. This is actually a blog written by a writer/writing coach but the materials appear to be good.

Creative writers can take advantage of free open course classes offered at several major colleges. You can access these self-led courses online to help you grow as a creative writer. MIT has an Introduction to Fiction course. UCLA has Introduction to Screenwriting. Purdue University has an online writing lab.

For students looking to enter into the world of creative writing, sometimes it is a good idea to go ahead and join an online writing group for adults. Many sites allow you to post your writing online and get feedback from other writers, while reading the writing of others for inspiration. One such site is Writing.com (I was a member a few years ago). This site does require parental guidance because not all the authors write for the pg13 crowd.

Young creative writers can enter writing contests such as is found at OnceWritten.com This website also provide writing prompts to get your creative juices going.

If you liked this you should also read my blogs at the home blog, the parents blog, and the frugal blog. You can read my recent posts here.
