Getting a Late Start on Homeschoolingby Andrea Hermitt | More from this Blogger 11 Apr 2008 03:05 PM A great many homeschoolers these days began their education in traditional (public or private) schools and then moved to homeschooling out of frustration from school issues. In the early elementary years, new homeschooling parents seem to jump right in without much trepidation. As students approach high school however, prospective homeschooling parents tend to feel it is too late to homeschool their children. The truth is, it is never too late to homeschool your kids. Even high school dropouts through homeschooling. While many homeschoolers turn to public and private schools for the high school years, those homeschoolers who go all the way find a great many perks and privileges to homeschooling through high school. One of them is taking community college classes that serve as both high school and college credits. Parents can choose to put together a customized homeschool program for their kids (after much evaluation and research). Other parents use accredited or non-accredited homeschool programs many of which are online. My series on Distance Learning Programs will give you many options for hig school students. They are as follows: Distance Learning Homeschool Programs 3D-Ac Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Al-Ar Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Be-Ca Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Ca-Co Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Fu-Gr Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Ha-In Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Jo-La Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Mo-No Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Oa-RA Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Ri-Tr Distance Learning Homeschool Programs Un-Wo My personal favorite online homeschool programs are School of Tomorrow, and I also think you should get involved with a few local homeschooling groups to find out about Co-op and other academic classes in your area such as the program my kids use. In his own words, "school is just not my thing." He's ditching classes and not doing the work, yet he typically makes great grades on his tests and SOLs. He's an intelligent boy and I worry that he's going to get lost in the system. I am, however, very nervous about taking on this responsibility and your articles are very encouraging. The information out there is a bit overwhelming for me at this point but your writing is helping me to narrow down my focus.
