Coloring Books Aren’t Just for Kids

Think back to when you were a child. Did you spend time happily coloring the pictures that were in your coloring books? Today, many adults are rediscovering their love for coloring. There are several different types of detailed coloring books out there which are intended for grownups to use. Coloring is fun. It’s something that people first learn how to do when they are in preschool or kindergarten. Little kids can improve their fine motor skills by grasping a crayon and using it to color a picture. They find it rewarding to color a picture all by themselves and are … Continue reading

More about Coloring

Previously I discussed how I believe that one can tell much about a child from the way that he or she colors. I discussed that kindergarten children first entering school have very different levels of coloring. Some of the children are expert colorers and others have had very little experience. In this article I will continue the discussion about what one can tell from the way that a child colors a picture. The way that a child colors comes in stages. In the beginning stage a child typically uses one color and moves his or her arms back and forth … Continue reading

Coloring Outside the Lines

I have to warn you: I am on the war path. My child got in trouble today during school. We went down the block to play in our friend’s back yard and they have a sand box. You know, because we have to socialize. So we played at the sandbox for a while with another family and my daughter decided it would be more interesting to take the sand out of the box than to keep it in. She had made a nice hill before anyone noticed. Since it is not polite to spread sand all over someone else’s back … Continue reading

Now you can say “yes” to writing on the walls! If you want to move the shape to another … Continue reading

Easter Nightmare at School

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare: Dropping off your child at school, then getting a call a few hours later informing you that he’s been taken to the hospital. Now imagine learning that he was taken to the hospital in handcuffs by a couple of cops. Can your day get any worse? It can if you are Jessica Anderson. The New York mom recently made headlines when she went public with her tale of horror triggered by alleged poor decision making on the part of administrators at her son’s school in Queens and members of the NYPD. Last week Anderson dropped … Continue reading

Jambo (Hello) to a New Line of Six Character Dolls Who were Adopted

In Friday’s blog, promised that I would do a positive blog on dolls. Last year, I wrote about dolls for kids of different ethnicities in my blog Toys and Dolls for Multicultural Families. Yesterday I reminded parents that while it is good to have a doll that reflects your child, not every doll needs to “match”. This year I can share with you some doll characters with different family constellations. Jambo Kids are school-age dolls. They are soft-bodied dolls about 12 inches high. A book is available for each doll. The website tells a little bit about each of the … Continue reading
