What Grade Are You In?

It used to be that when an adult would meet a child for the first time, they would ask, "How old are you?" Now they ask, "What grade are you in?" and determine the age based on the grade. This doesn't make sense.

I was asked the following question on a previous blog post: I know that the (standardized) testing always test beyond what the standard level of education is, but what do I do to prepare her for this test. When I taught High School, we always set aside 2 weeks to prepare students.

I know homeschooling works for my family. All three of my children are well above grade level. Even if they weren't, I still believe that it is the right decision for our family and can be the right decision for any other family who wants to take this educational journey. I don't need evidence.

Alright, I admit it. My children are not perfect, or gifted, or superior in intelligence. Yet, objective evaluation and assessment is one dilemma that faces many homeschoolers.
